Double bubble describes a visible horizontal line or crease across the lower breast, where the natural inframammary fold remains while the implant sits below it — creating two "bubbles".
Why it happens
- The implant drops below the original breast fold (for example if the fold is released too much or the implant is too large/low).
- A tight or high original fold that does not release, common in tuberous breasts.
- The implant and breast tissue moving as separate units.
Treatment
Correction depends on the cause and may involve adjusting the pocket, changing implant size or position, internal sutures or support, and sometimes a lift. Careful planning of fold position and pocket dissection at the first operation is the best prevention. This is part of revision surgery.
