A sterile breast implant prepared on a surgical tray

"Implant exchange" is closely related to implant replacement — the terms are often used interchangeably for removing old implants and inserting new ones, frequently as part of revision surgery.

When it is done

Patients exchange implants to change size or profile, update older implants, switch implant type (for example from textured to smooth), or address a complication. It is also planned electively for those who simply want a different look.

What may be combined

  • Capsule treatment (release or removal) if the capsule is thickened.
  • Pocket adjustment to reposition the implant.
  • A lift if the breast has descended.

The plan is tailored to why you are exchanging and what has changed since your original surgery.
