Subfascial placement positions the implant above the chest muscle but beneath the fascia — the thin, strong layer of connective tissue that covers the muscle.
The rationale
By keeping the implant out from under the muscle, subfascial placement avoids animation deformity and tends to allow an easier early recovery, while the fascia provides a little extra support and cover compared with pure subglandular placement.
Considerations
- The fascia is thin, so soft-tissue cover is less than under the muscle — edges and rippling may show in very thin patients.
- Outcomes depend on tissue quality and surgeon technique.
Subfascial is one option among several; compare with dual plane and discuss suitability with your surgeon.
