Most UK surgeons practise responsibly, but knowing the warning signs protects you from those who do not. Treat any of these as a reason for caution.
Sales pressure
- Time-limited discounts or pressure to "book today".
- Financing pushed before you have decided.
- No cooling-off period.
Lack of transparency
- Reluctance to discuss risks or complications.
- Vagueness about who will actually perform the surgery.
- Unwillingness to confirm GMC Specialist Register status or the operating facility.
Unrealistic claims
- Guarantees of "perfect" results or "scarless" surgery.
- Dismissing the need for follow-up or revision planning.
- Prices far below the market with no clear explanation.
A trustworthy surgeon welcomes questions, gives you time, and is open about both benefits and limitations. See the safety checklist.
