Return-to-work timing depends largely on your job. Desk-based workers are usually back sooner than those doing physical or manual roles.

Typical guidance

  • Desk/office work: often 1–2 weeks.
  • Roles with light activity: around 2–3 weeks.
  • Physical/manual or heavy-lifting jobs: 4–6 weeks or more.

Tips

Plan time off in advance, arrange lighter duties if possible, and avoid heavy lifting and strenuous tasks until cleared. Fatigue is common in the first couple of weeks, so ease back in rather than returning to full intensity immediately. See also the patient guide.
