Sleep position matters after augmentation. Most surgeons advise sleeping on your back, slightly elevated, for several weeks to protect the result and reduce swelling.
Why back-sleeping
- Avoids pressure that can shift implants before the pocket has healed.
- Elevation reduces swelling and throbbing.
- Protects incisions from friction.
Practical tips
Use pillows or a wedge to stay propped and stop yourself rolling over; a travel pillow can help. Many surgeons suggest avoiding side-sleeping for around 4–6 weeks and front-sleeping for longer. Wearing your support bra at night is often recommended early on.
