Sterile breast implant and instruments prepared for surgery

Good preparation makes surgery safer and recovery smoother. Your clinic will give specific instructions; these are the common essentials.

Weeks before

  • Stop smoking/vaping as advised — it significantly impairs healing.
  • Reach a stable weight.
  • Complete any pre-operative health checks or blood tests.
  • Review medications with your surgeon (some, such as certain blood thinners, may need adjusting).

Days before

  • Arrange time off, transport home and help for the first few days.
  • Buy your post-surgical support bra, loose front-fastening clothing and any supplies.
  • Follow fasting instructions for the anaesthetic.
